The Bucs take 3 of 4 from the Bravos.

The KOD Pirate Rookies met the KOD Braves Rookies and it was a slugfest from the getgo.  The Pirates won game 1 10-9 but had to hang on after building a 9-1 lead.  The Pirates exploded for 5 runs in the 2nd as Manny Sanguillen lined a triple to the gap scoring 3.  The feisty catcher then singled home 2 more in the 5th as the Pirates led 9-1 heading in the bottom of the 5th.  The Braves started chipping away as Dusty Baker hit 2 homerun, Ron Gant and Earl Williams each hit a homer and suddenly it was 9-6 after 8.  Andrew McCutchen hit a huge homerun in the 9th to pad the lead to 10-6.

The Pirates had their closer Rich Loiselle in to close it out but he couldn't do it.  The Pirates had to call on their second closer Stan Belinda (infamous Stan will never be forgotten giving up Sid Bream's single in 92 ending the Pirates last chance that year) and the Braves had runners at first and second with the score 10-9.  Stan Belinda comes to the belt, here comes the pitch, Ralph Garr hits a groundball to third, Danny O'Connell up with it throws to second for the final out.  The Pirates hang on this time as this game had the same eery feeling as the 92 LCS vs the Braves deja vu again.  The second game was more of a pitchers duel as Ron Reed beat Jose DeLeon 5-2 as the Braves evened up the series 1-1.  Earl Willliams hit another homerun and Dave Justice hit one also.  The third game would be another thriller in 10 innings as Joe Orsulak squeezed home the winning run in the bottom of the 10 inning with the bases loaded and one out giving the Pirates a 6-5 victory.  The Braves were totally caught off guard as they were playing back looking for the double play.  I could hear the Braves manager cursing as they walked off the field.  The last game Jason Bay provided all the sock with a 3-run homerun and Randy Tomlin picked up the victory throwing 5 2/3 striking out 7.  Rich Loiselle managed to get the save this time.  The Pirates took the finale 8-5.
